In every decision that we are called to make & in every circumstance or situation that we are faced with, there is always going to be three different voices speaking to you.

(2) Your own voice
a. conscience
b. reasoning or
c. flesh
(3) The voice of the devil

God’s voice will always be something for our good; always uplift Christ; & never cause chaos in our lives! The peace of God will rest in our hearts.
Your voice
a. Voice of our conscience - (Acts 24:16 & Hebrews 10:22)
Your conscience is the place where you recognize the difference between what is right & what is wrong. It is where your morals & values exist. Your conscience is going to fall into one of the four categories:
1. good conscience, (I Timothy 1:5 and Acts 24:16)
2. weak conscience, (I Corinthians 8:7)
3. seared (closed) conscience, (I Timothy 4:2)
4. evil conscience, (Hebrews 10:22)
The voice of your conscience is good to listen to as long as you have a good conscience, but when a person has a weak, seared or evil conscience, it would be unadvisable, of course, to follow the voice of your conscience.
b. Voice of our reasoning - (Acts 28:1-6 & Mark 2:6-8)
Every human has been given the ability to reason. We have this ability so that we may rationally consider our options, blessings, curses, obstacles, circumstances or situations, consequences, advantages, disadvantage, profits or losses. We can tell if we are listening to the voice of reason if we weigh & think about the things we see & hear in the natural. After weighing our pros & cons, then we make our decision(s). Then check the decision out & see if it contradicts God’s Word or what God has said to us. If it does, then we must abandon this voice of reason. (Numbers 13:26-33)
c. Voice of our flesh - Our flesh is constantly speaking to us. Anytime we follow this voice, the result will ALWAYS be non-productive spiritually. We will know we are listening to & being led by the voice of our flesh when we engage in the Spirit vs. the flesh: (Galatians 5:16-21)
List the sins of the flesh: (depending on the translation you are using you should come up w/15 to 17)
The voice of our flesh will never inspire us to do God’s will. It only talks us into engaging in any of the destructive behaviors above. What we need to do is bring this voice of our flesh into subjection to God’s Word. (I Corinthians 9:27). In so doing, we must put into practice our building-up of positive thinking & ask Christ for His strength in bringing our voice of flesh into subjection. He will give us the strength when we earnestly desire it!
Psalm 55:1-2 > The Voice of the Devil
If you are hearing fear, confusion, torment, doubt, justification of sin, or you are hearing the voice of the devil.
The following tells us when we are hearing from him. List what you find in each of the Scriptures.
- Rev. 20:7-8
- Acts 10:38
- Num. 32:6-10
- Col. 3:19
- Acts 19:32
- Is. 5:20
- 2 Cor. 4:4
- 1 John 2:4
- Heb. 3:12
- Mark 3:25
- Joshua 5:6
- Eph. 4:31
- Mark 4:40
- Matt. 8:6
- Job 7:1-15
- Joshua 1:9
- Ezekiel 25:15
- Job 2:9
- Matt. 6:15
- Mark 8:38
- John 10:5
When the leading is any of the above, don’t waste time in praying & asking whether you are hearing the devil’s voice b/c YOU ARE. A good rule of thumb is: if the voice is trying to cause chaos, strife or anything contrary to God’s goodness…..we are listening to the wrong voice!
**The answer is whether you have received God’s “peace.” If it feels right inside you, Godly righteousness, your spirit will confirm the voice as being truly from God.
In conclusion:
There are elements that must be placed in our lives, if we are going to properly discern the voice speaking to us. Again list what the Scripture is telling you.
2 Timothy 1:15
Joshua 1:8
Mark 1:35
2 Cor. 13:14
